My London life one slice at a time

Natalie Imbruglia at Union Chapel, Islington

Sorry for not posting much over the last couple of weeks, been busy with work and catching up with friends. Last night my friend and I headed over to Union Chapel in Islington to watch Natalie Imbruglia on her 20th anniversary acoustic tour, just saying 20th anniversary makes me feel old ha!

On walking in to the venue I realised this wasn’t going to be any normal gig, being a working chapel it is a really intimate and unique venue for a gig and the acoustics are really good. After a couple of drinks at the bar upstairs, which was also pretty quaint and might I add quite reasonable in terms of prices, we headed down to get a seat for the gig. Its such a small venue you can get a good view from almost anywhere but it is unreserved seating so its worth getting a seat early, even if you just leave your coat and head up to the bar.

The gig itself was awesome and Natalie’s voice was amazing, shes such a down to earth artist and you can almost sense a vulnerability to her performance which definitely helps for classic tracks like Smoke. She started with Wrong Impression and performed all of her well known hits from Torn to Big Mistake, it was like rolling back to my teenage years at times. Hearing such a big anthem like Torn from when I was growing up and singing along with Natalie and the crowd will definitely stick with me for a long time. If you ever get chance to see her live or see a gig at Union Chapel I definitely recommend taking the opportunity.
